Bring TAP Back
Bring TAP Back!
April 1, 2004

As you know, the Governor has proposed a 33% cut to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) in his latest budget. For 1,800 students at Adelphi, this could mean $1.5 million less in financial support.

While the New York State Legislature has rejected this proposed change to TAP twice in recent years, we cannot count on the same result this year without fully engaging in advocacy. Now it the time for our community to share our perspective on this proposal with policymakers in Albany. Legislators are reviewing the budget RIGHT NOW and making very difficult decisions about budget priorities.

Adelphi and other private colleges and universities across the state are supporting an electronic advocacy system hosted by the Albany-based Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities. You can add your voice to thousands of others—and many from the Adelphi community who have already participated— in opposing this plan to reduce funding for New York's signature student aid program.

To those who have already voiced your concerns to our legislators, please accept my thanks. For others, please visit www.cicu.org to send email with your personal comments stressing the importance of state support to your elected representatives and other important leaders. The system is easy to use and requires just minutes of your time.

Thank you,
Robert A. Scott
