Safety in These Trying Times
April 7, 2003

Dear Students:

World circumstances have made for tense and uncertain times. Please be assured that Adelphi University is doing everything possible to provide for your safety.

Our Public Safety Department has long been committed to improving and maintaining a comprehensive Crisis Management and Emergency Operation Plan for all members of the Adelphi Community, with the assistance of our student organizations, faculty and staff, and cooperative efforts with the New York City, Nassau County, Suffolk County and Garden City Police Departments, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the American Red Cross, New York State Joint Terrorist Task Force and Long Island College and University Security Consortium. Our preparedness program has contributed to what we believe is an excellent plan of readiness. Depending on the type of emergency, specific information will be communicated to you.

If a critical emergency situation arises, the University will activate its “Emergency Response Plan.” You may obtain important information from the following numbers:

As standard practice, please check your Adelphi email and carry your Adelphi identification card. If you live in university housing, information will be provided by the Residential Life staff. While there is no way to predict what will happen, or what your personal circumstances will be at the time of an emergency, there are simple things you can do now to prepare yourself and your loved ones. Please visit the Department of Homeland Security Web site at www.ready.gov, the Federal Emergency Management Agency Web site at www.FEMA.gov, and the American Red Cross Web-site at www.redcross.org.
