Adelphi Brings Online Music Services to Students
October 2004

Dear Students,

Welcome to Adelphi.  I hope your semester is off to a good start.  It is my pleasure to announce an exciting new service that we are providing to Adelphi students.  The University has joined together with RealNetworks, the leading creator of digital media services and software, to offer the award-winning Rhapsody Digital Music service FREE to students who live on campus and at an 80% discount for commuters. Adelphi is currently the only campus in the country providing the Rhapsody service for free to students through the entire 2004-05 academic year.

Rhapsody is the most flexible digital music service available, offering a legal way for music fans to enjoy unlimited access to a vast library of music from both major and independent record labels. Subscribers can stream as much music as they want from Rhapsody' s library of more than 790,000 songs and 60,000 albums, as well as purchase favorite tunes for just 79 cents per song; more than 700,000 songs in the Rhapsody library are currently available for purchase. In addition to burning full albums or custom-mix CDs, Rhapsody subscribers can create their own commercial-free radio stations featuring their favorite artists, listen to professionally programmed stations, and browse extensive music information and editorial recommendations.

The University recognizes that easy and low cost access to online music is a priority for students.  While the Rhapsody service will be available free of charge for students living on campus, those who commute will have to pay a nominal fee of just $2.00 a month for unlimited access, an 80% discount off the service' s normal $9.95 per month fee. For more information on Rhapsody and details on this exciting service, please log on to http://students.adelphi.edu/rhapsody/.

At a time when copyright laws are being tested, we are pleased to offer this legal service to Adelphi University students. Best wishes for a successful semester.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Scott
President, Adelphi University
