Dr. Gayle D. Insler
Gayle D. Insler is Adelphi University's provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Insler has been recognized with numerous awards during her career. She has been widely published in the fields of biology and parasitology, and is an active member in several professional organizations. As the dean of Adelphi's College of Arts and Science, she oversaw the development of several new academic programs, including undergraduate programs in international studies and computer management and information systems, the Levermore Global Scholars program, and graduate degrees in creative writing, physics, and environmental studies. During her 11 years as dean, enrollment in the College increased by more than 138 percent and the full-time instructional faculty grew 19 percent.

Dr. Insler has served many roles at the University since she joined the faculty as an assistant professor of biology in 1977. In 1983, she was promoted to associate professor, and in 1988 she was promoted to professor of biology, a title she continues to hold. In 1997, she became the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She received her B.S. in biology, cum laude, from SUNY Stony Brook, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
