February 20, 2007: Aggravated Harassment
On Tuesday, February 20, 2007 an Adelphi University residential student reported to the Public Safety Department that she had received anonymous phone threats on her cell phone. University officials contacted the Garden City Police Department and implemented several security measures.  Adelphi will fully and actively cooperate with the police investigation as it progresses.  The University is strongly committed to the safety of its students, faculty and staff.

For your Safety:

  • Don’t allow any individuals into your resident hall or room if you do not know who they are.
  • Keep your doors locked at all times.
  • Do not enter or remain with a stranger in an elevator if you feel unsafe.
  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings.  If you detect any suspicious activity and are concerned about your safety, immediately respond to a location where you can call for assistance. (ex. emergency phones, emergency Call boxes.)
  • Do not post any personal information on a public web site such as myspace.com and facebook.com (ex. Name, Phone number, address etc.)
  • If you become alarmed or suspicious about any unusual activity or have information regarding this incident, call the Department of Public Safety for assistance at 516-877-3511 (off campus) or dial "5" from any campus phone.

October 21, 2006: Burglary
On Saturday, October 21, 2006 at approximately 8:15 pm an Adelphi student confronted an unknown male in his room on campus. The unknown male removed several personal items from the room prior to him leaving the building. There were no injuries or weapons.

  • Male black, average build, 6'3", 200lbs, brown eyes, black hair, dark hooded sweatshirt, dred locks & grey ski cap.

For your Safety:

  • Don't allow any individual into your apartment or building if you do not know who they are.
  • Keep your doors locked at all times.
  • Do not leave valuable items unattended.
  • Do not enter or remain with a stranger in an elevator if you feel unsafe.
  • Don't leave your door open or unlocked for any period of time.
  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings. If you detect any suspicious activity and are concerned about your safety, immediately respond to a location where you can call for assistance. (ex. Emergency phones, Emergency Call boxes)

September 25, 2004: Sexual Offense
On Saturday, September 25, 2004 at approximately 10:30 pm three (3) Adelphi ELS students were approached by an unknown male on the corner of South Ave. and Whitehall St. The unknown male managed to grab one of the victims and fondle her breasts. After several attempts, the victim managed to push the male away and run to safety. The male left the area heading west on South Ave. with the personal belongings of the victim.

Garden City Police Suspect:

  • Male black, thin build, 30-40 years old, clean shaven, dark baseball cap and dark clothing.

For your Safety:

  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings. If you detect any suspicious activity and are concerned about your safety, immediately respond to a location where you can call for assistance. (ex. Emergency phones, Emergency Call boxes)
  • Use the buddy system, don't walk alone especially at night.
  • Don't resist a robbery attempt.
  • Don't allow any individual into your home, room or apartment if you do not know who they are.
  • Don't leave your door open or unlocked for any period of time.
